Ruislip pronounced Rye-slip
To include Ruislip, Ruislip Manor, South Ruislip & Ruislip Gardens

Ruislip is close enough to central London by tube or car, but still with plenty of woods and fields which give it its country feel. Taking a stroll towards St Martins Church near Ruislip Library one would mistake the vibrant town for a little village, with all its old world charm.

Ruislip Lido is a Reservoir that featured in Cliff Richards ‘The Young Ones’ and ‘Summer Holiday’ films. The sinking of the model of the Titanic for the film 'A Night to Remember', (made for about 7/6d – not however the cost of the eventual film!), was partly filmed in Ruislip Lido. It was once a very famous water sports park. It is possible to follow the nature paths across into Mad Bess Woods and Bayhurst Woods - beautiful woodland which surrounds the area.

The Ruislip name is created from the old english ryse, "rush" and hlype, "leap", which is thought to refer to a spot where the river Pinn, that passes through Ruislip’s borough could once be jumped across. Other scholars state the second syllable is derived from "slaep" translated "a slippery spot". Effectively Ruislip means "the wet place where rushes grow". It has had various spellings but settled as Ruislip in 1527, so the area has immense history.
